THE SÁMI HERITAGE

GÁBA takes pride in being the first brand to introduce boots crafted from authentic reindeer hide to the Norwegian fashion landscape. The vision and soul behind GÁBA, Anette Smuk Buljo hails from Finnmark—the heart of Norway's arctic region. Born into a Sámi reindeer-herding family, she descends from a great-grandfather who was honored with the King's Medal for his expertise in reindeer husbandry. Anette has seamlessly woven the principles of excellent animal care from her heritage into every fiber of GÁBA.

Anette's passion for Duodji, the Sámi art of craftsmanship, has been nurtured by traditional wisdom imparted by her mother-in-law, Anne Grethe, and her sister-in-law, Karen Inga. This ancestral knowledge has been the cornerstone of the GÁBA product line, for which Anette personally sources raw materials, complemented by local suppliers. Every contributor of the materials adheres to a strict code, and each piece of leather can be traced back to the very reindeer it once adorned, and even the specific region within Finnmark where it grazed under the northern lights. This deliberate choice ensures the integrity of the entire supply chain, from the vast expanses where these animals roam to the final creation of GÁBA Boot.

Anette’s unwavering commitment to preserving Sámi techniques has turned GÁBA's journey into a labor of love — one marked by meticulous attention to detail and an uncompromising standard of quality.

At GÁBA, we proudly utilize one of the last truly sustainable and humane fur options available — reindeer fur. Each piece we craft radiates its own unique aura, a testament to the fur's natural origin. From dark, near-black shades to light hues with ethereal white tints, the color variations reflect the seasonal changes in the reindeer's fur.
